A talk by Laura Probert in The Wellington Room at The Falstaff Hotel
Local historian, Laura Probert, delivers a fond tribute to Ramsgate’s first lady mayor and Ramsgate’s most generous benefactress Dame Janet Stancomb-Wills.
The niece of Lord Winterstoke came to live on the Eastcliff in 1911 after her uncle died. She played an active role in the life of the town until her death in 1932 refusing to move away the clifftop during the First World War even though the guns of Flanders could be heard from her bedroom window. The talk also reveals something about her life in Bristol, continuing her uncle’s good work there.

Please help the Festival!
We are dependent on fundraising to make our full programme happen this year and every year. Please consider supporting us with a donation to help secure the Festival and its future. If everyone in Ramsgate were to give just one a pound, imagine what we could achieve for the town!
Find out how you can help, watch our fun Kickstarter video, featuring actress Brenda Blethyn and a host of other Ramsgate people and please share the link with everyone you can think of who may like to help!
