Local author and historian Laura Probert will lead a guided tour of some of the nautical graves in Ramsgate Cemetery, such as the memorial to the sailors who died when His Majesty’s Torpedo Boat HMTB4 exploded in Ramsgate Harbour in May 1917. The tour will take about an hour and will start by the chapel near the main entrance in Cecilia Road at 3pm. Sturdy shoes are advisable as the ground is uneven in places.
Laura’s pop-up exhibition Remembering 1916, a tribute to Ramsgate’s serving men who died on the Somme or at sea will be coming soon. This will also be the first opportunity for Ramsgate people to see her re-created WW1 Roll of Honour which is being presented at the drumhead service in Ellington Park on 9th July.
