The End of the Pier Show is a variety show curated by visual artist Sadie Hennessy of The Whitstable ANchorage Klub. The Whitstable ANchorage Klub is pleased to be bringing this unique event to Ramsgate for the first time as part of the Ramsgate Festival. The show offers a diverse and unpredictable selection of modern variety acts, mixed with local talent.
Acts confirmed already are: Mr Henry Dagg and his amazing Cat Orchestra, Miss Josephine Shaker – taking tap-dancing to the next level, The Fishy Pluckers with ukulele sea-shanties, and local poet Sam Simmons. Comedian and ex-roadie Dean Proctor will be taking us on a backstage tour with ELO and burlesque star Missy Maybe finds herself on a nudist beach, unexpectedly.
Headliner Henry Dagg has famously performed his act for Prince Charles, and a quick Google search will find footage of the Royal prince and his wife crying with laughter as they watch him. He has also collaborated with Icelandic superstar Bjork on her Biophilia tour. He will be accompanied by pianist Richard Dray.
The show will be compered by the Duo Bogof , who will be bringing their trademark mix of magic, comedy and interactive film, which has won them many prestigious awards, including the London Cabaret Awards in 2015
The End of the Pier Show is a fancy dress event, with a different theme for every show. The show always culminates in a Fancy Dress Parade, with a bottle of Champagne going to the winner. The End of the Pier Show has an in-house band called ‘The House Band From Hell’ who provide backing music in a style that may best be described as an ‘easy-listening/punk hybrid’.
Producer Sadie Hennessy has been putting on events throughout her career, cutting her teeth on Channel 4’s famous Big Breakfast TV show back in the 90’s. She is currently planning a parade of Reliant Robins for the Isle of Portland in Dorset and last month created a giant souvenir snow globe for Coventry City Centre. She says: “I am always amazed at the imagination and effort that people put into their End of the Pier Show costumes, and I can’t wait to see what the audience come up with for this ‘sea life’ themed show”
The tone of the event is surreal and saucy with much emphasis put on audience participation. The End of the Pier Show is an over-18’s event and not for the faint-hearted!
