Big Opera Take Over
Free activities, short screenings and the Advance Wedding Party pop up performances as opera takes over Ramsgate town and beach!
11.30am – 4pm
Pop up opera – The Advance Wedding Party
Catch Garsington Opera soprano Belinda Evans and baritone Bruno Loxton leading a company of local people who have been working with musical directors Emily Leather and Tania Holland-Williams for the last few weeks. A series of very short extracts have been devised to be sung in spaces around town, and you can join in – it’s the Advance Wedding Party for Semele!
From 11.30am around the town centre and harbour. The following are approximate performance times and locations, both of which may vary according: 12.30pm York St; 1.15pm Corby’s Tea Rooms; 3pm Obelisk, by the Pavilion; 3.45pm Beach Kiosk
2pm – 5:30pm
Workshop Tents – Beach, past the children’s rides
Lots to make and do – themed around the story of Semele, by Handel, these are family-friendly and led by local artists, makers and crafters. Materials all provided, it’s free to take part, just drop in.
3pm and 5pm
A 45 min screening of excerpts from Semele, by George Frideric Handel will take place at 3pm and again at 5pm. Both will be introduced by Freya Wynn-Jones, a director from Garsington Opera who will explain the intriguing love story with a twist and how it unfolds through this fantastic production from Garsington Opera.
7:30pm – 10:30pm
There will be a free evening screening of Garsington Opera’s full length production of Handel’s masterpiece, Semele, on the beach starting at 7.30pm – see separate event details: Semele – opera on the beach
