We are delighted to announce that Ramsgate Festival has won £48k funding from Arts Council England for 2017 – well done everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen!
With this and the support of the many other organisations and individuals who care so much and are generously giving their time and money to make the Festival happen this year, it is going to be amazing and much bigger than ever before in 2017.
Starting with opera on the beach (Handel’s Semele from Garsington Opera) and finishing with Fire Finale, the packed programme includes: Littoral Light, a beautiful illuminated twilight art installation on a remote stretch of beach involving 40 artists; the Ramsgate Slide, a giant water slide inspired by internationally famous artist Luke Jerram; Jimmy’s Boatyard, a unique installation from Russian artists Cardboardia and Yorkshire’s Handmade Parade, working with local artists, who will bring a daily programme of boat making in the harbour (think BIG!) – and a host of diverse, fun and serious, high quality events that celebrate the unique maritime location of this extraordinary place, from Pirate Day on 26th July, to nautical-themed computer games at the Micro Museum, to heritage walks and talks.
This year’s theme is #DreamMarine. We are inviting everyone to: ‘Think big, unleash your creative potential, play and have fun, prepare to be surprised and possibly challenged by Dream Marine in 2017’
The Arts Council money is a huge vote of confidence from them and a massive boost to what we can deliver this year – but we still need to raise more to fulfill all our dreams, in particular to make the Ramsgate Slide happen.
Tonight Ramsgate local businesses with Ramsgate Town Team are fundraising with a Race evening at The Goose public house in Harbour Street, to ‘Raise the Ramsgate Bunting’ – an exciting new design for the town by local artist Theresa Smith, who did the poignant Perfugium Miseris installation in the harbour last year. The bunting she has envisaged will provide a dreamy backdrop to the summer in Ramsgate and set the stage perfectly for the Festival.
If you can, please consider donating to help cover the costs of the Festival, or think about organising a fundraising event with your friends, family or colleagues, if you are a business you could consider placing an ad in the programme or become a Festival sponsor.
This is #RamsgateTime – come aboard!
