Ramsgate Festival of Sound 2019 Open Call for Artists


Following on from the critical and popular success of 2018, we can’t wait to see your submissions for what we are confident is going to be another hugely enjoyable and progressive festival in summer 2019

The Ramsgate Festival of Sound will run from 2oth until 28th July. We seek to select ten diverse artists to help us celebrate this year’s theme of  sound and “Time.” The selected artists’ work will be displayed at various appropriate locations and venues throughout Ramsgate as part of our Sonic Trail.

A commission of £500 will be granted to each artist selected by our panel.

This opportunity is open to artists at any level of their career. We welcome proposals from artists who wish to develop an existing work, as well as proposals for new pieces of artwork.

Thinking points:

This years sound festival theme is “Time” and we are looking for works that explore themes that could be as diverse as memory, history, evolution nature/landscape, growth , age and even the future! The Ramsgate Festival of Sound will be inviting audiences to explore everything that Ramsgate has to offer, from its rich history, its coastal location, its  booming artistic and cultural offer to its people and its place in contemporary Britain.

Some important questions to keep in mind….


  • What is the scale of your project?


  • Location; how will you make the most of Ramsgate’s unique landscapes and locations?


  • Each artist will be required to provide and be responsible for all necessary equipment e.g laptops,speakers, leads etc.


  • The festival team will work with each artist to secure the most appropriate space to display your work.

  • Accessibility; are there any limitations to your work?


  • Audience; who is your work for? –


  • Collaborative; how does your work involve others, how will people engage?


  • The festival will provide evaluation forms in compliance with our Arts Council grant conditions

  • Dates (if known) The festival runs from 20th-28th July.Ideally we would like all works to be presented from at least 24th -28th July so bare this in mind if your work requires supervision.

Important Information:


Shortlisted  candidates will be invited for a discussion on possible approaches to the Sonic Trail and to meet the team during week commencing  22nd April
