This summer, ‘The Ceramic House’ will partner with The Powell-Cotton Museum to produce ‘No Interdependent Origins’, a remote residency for two Hong Kong ceramic artists paired with two UK artists working in sound. The results of their collaborations will shipped over to the UK and be displayed in the historic setting of Quex House.
Tuesday 24th August – Family Experience Day
Immerse yourself in the artworks with Kay Aplin and Joseph Young from ‘The Ceramic House’ on hand to discuss your interpretation of the works. This will be the first opportunity to view and experience the completed artworks in their intended setting, Quex House. Artworks will be in the ground floor ‘Oriental room’, and upstairs in the ‘library’, ‘boudoir’ and ‘Powell’ room. Please note only the ground floor of Quex House is wheelchair accessible however the artworks will be available online following the event.
Relax your mind and body with tai chi demonstrations and taster sessions by local group ‘Hong Ying Tai Chi Chuan’. They practice the Yang style Tai Chi with a direct lineage from Yang Lu Chan (1792-1872), an influential teacher in China in the 19th century. The demonstrations will show a range of forms including hand, sword, fan and sabre forms, to demonstrate the principles of Yang style Tai Chi Chuan.
There’s also the chance to join a family workshop where you can get involved with the tactile process of porcelain craft. Join ‘Clayspace’ and our Learning team to help us create our own sound-art horns! The horns will be glazed and fired by Clayspace and then returned to the museum as completed art-pieces for use in future learning workshops and activities.
